New Research Expands Understanding of Gut, Immune and Barrier Benefits of Benicaros®

A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial published recently in Microorganisms, evaluated the effects of four weeks of Benicaros (carrot rhamnogalacturonan-I, or cRG-I) supplementation in healthy adults. The study assessed gut microbiota composition, metabolic activity, immune cell activation, and gut health outcomes using validated questionnaires. Benicaros was well tolerated with excellent compliance.

• The results showed a rapid prebiotic effect, with significant increases in health-promoting Bifidobacteria that peaked at week three.
• Data also supported earlier findings related to innate immune training by priming dendritic cells—the body’s immune “scouts” that help detect and respond to threats.
• Benicaros® improved gut microbiota balance even in participants already consuming fiber-rich diets, and it improved stool consistency.
• Additional lab studies showed Benicaros and its fermentation products, such as short-chain fatty acids, helped protect the gut barrier under stress and inflammatory conditions.
