Ruud Albers, CEO obtained his PhD on immunomodulation at Utrecht University and studied intestinal metabolism at Rockefeller University in New York. In 1998 he joined Unilever where he built and led the global expertise group on nutrition, immunity and gut health in varying roles up to global R&D director Bioscience, Nutrition & Health Discover Platform. He initiated numerous (international) colaborations and is coinventor of IMPP-1. From 2007 to 2012 he chaired the ILSI-Europe taskforce on nutrition and immunity that published seminal papers on immunomodulation in humans. Since leaving Unilever in 2012, he founded NutriLeads and he acts as consultant for international ingredient, food and pharma companies.
Erik Dam, CBO (Chief Business Officer) started his carreer at Andersen Consulting before entering the Life Sciences & Healthcare industry in 1993 at Baxter. For Baxter he lived in various countries and held a variety of marketing and general management roles up to VP Renal EMEA. In 2005 Erik joined the Medical Nutrition division of Numico (acquired by Danone in 2007) where he held various global VP roles in strategy, finance, sales and general management. He started his own consultancy company at the end of 2013 with a focus on commercialising Life Sciences & Healthcare innovations, he is involved with NutriLeads since May 2014 and became a co-founder in August 2015. Erik holds a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology and an MBA from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Maria Tzoumaki (Research Manager Foodtechnology)
Is a food scientist by training and has obtained a PhD at the Aristotle University in Greece. Her work was mainly about tuning polysaccharide functionality in order to improve food stability and texture, while at the same time increasing their beneficial health impact. She boasts experience in several research projects, including her work for Top Institute Food & Nutrition (TIFN) as a postdoctoral researcher, where she investigated ways to structure low fat food products. In January 2016, Maria joined NutriLeads as a Research Manager Foodtechnology, where she is engaged in the identification and development of food ingredients with clinically demonstrated health effects for specific consumer groups. She is additionally overseeing the optimization of sustainable production processes of NutriLeads’ health promoting food ingredients.
Marcela Aparicio-Vergara (Research Manager
Nutrition & Health) has been trained as molecular biologist at Leiden University and obtained her PhD at the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands, where she studied the role of chronic inflammation in insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She performed her postdoctoral research at the Karolinska Institutet/AstraZeneca Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre in Stockholm, Sweden, on the regulatory mechanisms implicated in the interaction between immune and metabolic cells in the obesity-related diseases: insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease. In early 2016 Marcela joined NutriLeads as Research Manager Nutrition & Health. She is responsible for coordination of in-vitro and in-vivo testing of NutriLeads’ lead ingredient as well as initiation and coordination of clinical trials.
